Post 41. Reports from Litzmannstadt Ghetto

Vienna 2016

The exhibition showed a selection of 90 postcards written from the Lódz ghetto in 1941/42 to people outside the ghetto. Like the vast majority of all postcards written in the ghetto, these cards were never delivered. The postcards were presented in five display cases in front of a wall covered with cement panels and mirrors. Three cases were visually extended by mirrors, two ended in front of cement panels. The mirrors suggested that there were gaps in the wall through which cards could get out. On the side-walls micro-narratives – so-called “explications” – were presented in angular display cases.

The postcards were arranged individually, each on its own slanted surface. The display cases were made of hot-dip galvanized sheet steel and equipped with LED lighting. They could be nested inside each other for space-saving transport.
